Second-year GSU Students Win a Scholarship for Biodesign Challenge Project

'Prototyping future cities' students will present their final project at Princeton University in June 2019.

Second-year GSU Students Win a Scholarship for Biodesign Challenge Project

The Biodesign Challenge, a program of Genspace NYC, is an international university competition that offers art and design students to envision future applications of biotechnology. Alexander Altenkov, Anna Budnikova and Daria Klimova, second-year students of the GSU master's programme ‘Prototyping future cities’, will develop a design project and present it in New York in June 2019. They will work under Elena Mitrofanova’s guidance. Elena Mitrofanova is an architect and a leading expert at Shukhov Lab. The team will showcase their projects at the Biodesign Summit in front of a wide audience of art, design, industrial, and academic communities from around the world.

The work on a project will begin in February 2019 when BDC’s organizers connect participants with a group of biologists and experts to guide the students as they develop their ideas.

Goals

The BDC's goals are to prepare young artists and designers to work with emerging biotech; to build collaborations between artists, designers and biologists; and to engage the public with visions for the future applications of biotechnology.
